FIFA's President, Trump and the Quest for Peace: An Association Football Initiative
'MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVES … DIVERSE VIEWPOINTS …'
When María Corina Machado won this year's Nobel Peace Prize for her "tireless work promoting political freedoms", Donald Trump reacted with the type of Maga-nanimous behavior you would expect. After persistently conducted a campaign of self-promotion to ensure he received the honor personally, the leader promptly asserted credit for the Venezuelan opposition leader's success, enumerated his own personally declared and often questionable successes in the domain of world conflict resolution and challenged the authority of the committee who made the decision not to award the honor, monetary award and certificate to him.
Although protection considerations suggest it is still uncertain if the latest peace prize winner will appear from seclusion to pick up her accolade in person at the Oslo ceremony in the final month, a particular obsequious Fifa president appears intent on appropriating her spotlight regardless. Indeed, Gianni Infantino has opted to give a peace prize of his own creation in front of an international television viewership of countless numbers worldwide sports followers in the preceding days in the American capital.
A man who has over many years advocated the value of keeping politics away from the sport, especially when they are the kind of political positions he deems awkward or just doesn't like, Infantino utilized his platform at the US economic conference in Miami to promote his agenda about the power of the beautiful game to unite individuals of diverse ethnicities and belief, notably those who have a spare $5,000-plus knocking around to purchase flexibly valued Geopolitics World Cup admissions.
"In an increasingly uncertain and separated world, it's crucial to recognize the exceptional effort of those who strive earnestly to resolve disputes and unite individuals in an attitude of peace", he declared. "The sport stands for peace and representing the entire sports family, the Fifa Peace Prize – Football Unites The World will celebrate the significant work of those individuals who unite people, offering hope for tomorrow's world."
But which individual could he indicate? Although the football official was cautious not to provide any clues concerning the person of the first honor's selected honoree, he proceeded to transition into a likely distinct and obsequious tribute to his existing Personal Ally (Or At Least Until August Next Year), the US president. His comments undoubtedly had the planned result. Globally, the most doubtful of observers were joined in asserting they knew precisely who would be receiving the Artificial Harmony Award, with certain individuals even progressing to make completely unfounded claims that the legally adjudicated and competitive misconduct man-baby being discussed might potentially forced the FIFA head to invent the award merely to compensate for the leader's feeling of injustice at not obtaining the genuine honor.
As credible a scenario as it sounds, The Sports Publication disagrees, if only because in recent months the progressively absurd Fifa boss has worked his path to such an extent within the leader's circle that it's quite possible this latest idea was actually his personal creation.
And although we can probably assume it stays past the president's limited wit to deliver the most unexpected development by handing the organization's inaugural (and possibly last) ever PPP to the environmental campaigner, Volodymyr Zelenskyy or the person of the Italian team's technical team who stepped between the player and the coach to avoid an unedifying important competition bench disagreement, it's possible to wish Reece James and his football associates are invited along to the capital in full kit to conduct a revenge-hijack of the leader's award event.
The golden questionable trophy, or whatever other equally appropriate trinket Infantino opts to present the American president for his efforts to global peace and cooperation, would more than make up for the winner's medal he infamously palmed and retained during the global team tournament award event.
